Información del inframundo maya

The Mayan underworld, also called in Mayan Quiché language: Xibalbá. In the Mayan cosmovision, it is the entrance to the underworld after death, a journey into darkness through caves and underground rivers.

The Popol Vuh, considered the sacred book of the Mayas, indicates the location of the Mayan underworld "Xibalba", in the department of Alta Verapaz, Guatemala, which is composed of a complex of large caves 22 kms long with underground rivers and is still a sacred place for the celebration of Mayan ceremonies by the native peoples of Mesoamerica and Southern Mexico.

Currently, the cave complex is divided into 3 sections, due to landslides and collapse of cavernous roofs. It is surrounded by Mayan Queqchi communities and rivers of turquoise blue and emerald green waters due to the karstic rock that predominates in the soil of the region.

This tour allows you to visit the 3 cavern complexes: Mucbil Já Caves, Bombil Pek Caves and Candelaria Camposanto Caves. Near this region there are other attractions such as: Sacmoc Farm Waterfall, Hunal Ye Natural Reserve, Laguna Lachuá Natural Park, Sachichaj River among others that are not included in this tour.
